Here is essentially the basics of my application to graduate school. The rest will (or is) in a series of posts and should include things like my personal statement (a generic form) and how I contacted professor.
University of California Santa Barbara
B.S. in Physics
GPA in Major: 3.80
Overall GPA: 3.76
I am also in the honor’s program and have Dean’s Honors for several quarters on my transcript.
I also went abroad my third year to Edinburgh University to study Astrophysics through my schools Education Abroad Program. The advantage of this is that my study abroad grades automatically transfered to my home universities official transcript. The disadvantage was the I could not do research and Edinburgh University so I missed a year of research and also the potential to get hired as a tutor on campus.
GRE Scores:
Q: 770 – 88%
V: 620 – 89%
W: 4.0 – 37%
P: 690 54% <- I should have studied a bit more.
Research Experience: I started research the fall of my senior year working under a professor in an experimental cosmology lab at UCSB. I did not have any summer REU’s or other experience.
I have applied to the following:
University of Washington - Earth and Space Science – Space Physics – Accepted by e-mail 1/16/09
University of British Columbia - Physics – Accelerator Physics - Accepted by mail 2/20/09
University of Wisconsin Madison - Physics – Plasma Physics - Accepted by e-mail 1/30/09
University of Wisconsin Madison - Engineering Physics – Plasma Physics - Accepted by e-mail 3/16/09
University of New Hampshire - Physics – Space/Solar Physics – Accepted by e-mail 1/28/09
Montana State University - Physics -Space/Solar Physics - Accepted by mail 3/2/09
