I tend to post photos with each entry and instead of making basic comments about each photo every entry I thought this would be a good use of an entire page. First my trip photos are in my web gallery while I have put all my blog photos and some others on Flickr, feel free to comment on a photo if you like. A photographer likes nothing more then having their photos appreciated.
Next: the stuff I use. For most of my travel photography (as in anything in Europe) I used an Olympus C-770 point and shoot camera. It was 4 megapixels with the great feature of a 10x optical zoom (not digital). I shot mostly on automatic or landscape with the flash off. By the end of a year abroad with it it is not quite beat up, I did not really believe in using a case. Now I use a Nikon D60 DSLR with the following equipment:
- Nikon 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G VR Lens
- Nikon 55-200mm f/4-5.6G VR Lens
- Nikon 50mm f/1.8D Prime Lens
- Lensbaby Composer
- 52mm UV filters
- 52mm Circular Polarizing Filter
- White Balance Filter
- Nikon ML-L3 Remote
- Bogen Tripod
- Think Tank Photo Streetwalker
- Think Tank Photo Digital Holster 10
- Think Tank Photo Lens Changer 15 (Not too often)
- Think Tank Photo Big Bazooka Tripod Case (Not too often)
- Timbuk2 Messenger Bag (Not too often)
On my computer I use iPhoto for organization and basic tasks like cropping and resizing, beyond that I do not do much direct editing of the photos. Except maybe to straighten a few. But I do process select photos using Photomatix Pro. I either take five to eleven photos to turn into an HDR photo (high dynamic range) or a single photo which I then tonemap. Eventually I would like to buy Aperture so I can streamline the process of making HDR shots.
I should also say that unless expressed otherwise all of the photos were taken by me and I really should have:
(c) Michael Hutchins – All Right Reserved
on every individual photo (and my web gallery) as a watermark or somesuch to protect the photos. Instead I will just have the above on this page and say it applies to all my photos. Of course I also only upload photos with a maximum size of 800 pixels to help prevent other uses. Unless of course someone decided to, you know, ask me for a higher resolution.
And I do think it is odd that I don’t have a photo on this page.
